To protect your netbook you can choose between a netbook sleeve and a netbook case.

But really what is the difference between the two and why it’s good to use both.

Your average netbook cases are generally styled like backpacks or briefcases.  They usually have straps that sling over one or both shoulders, and they can carry other accessories, in addition to your netbook.  They are meant for transporting and protecting your netbook.

A netbook sleeve case isn’t meant for transporting the netbook as much as it is for protecting it.  Sleeves are generally meant to keep the computer from being scratched, dented, or cracked.  They’re usually padded, and protect the computer against damage.

Netbook Sleeves vs Netbook Cases

Some sleeves do come with shoulder straps, but most aren’t meant to carry your netbook  or iPad to and from work or school.  Sleeves are generally used as extra protection for a computer inside a standard netbook case.  Since many netbook cases don’t have a lot of extra padding, these sleeves can offer some additional buffer against bumps.  They also help prevent scratches and dings in the computer itself that may be caused by other items inside the case bumping against the computer. Netbook Sleeves and Netbook Cases

I know that sounds like a simple question, but if you are purchasing a netbook sleeve or netbook case as a gift for someone (as many of us are this time of year) but to find out if your recipient prefers a sleeve, a case or both.

Netbook sleeves are great when you are carrying your netbook or iPad indoors, from room to room and you don’t want to get it dinged or scratched. So sleeves are perfect for classes or for business if you leave your netbook at work or have a case or backpack to carry it home in.

If you are transporting your netbook to and from work, for travel or to school you may prefer a case. A case will give you netbook much more protection against the elements and also in case you bang it around.

Some people prefer both a case and a sleeve. Since this is a popular option, many cases now include a matching sleeve for its case.

Sleeves are usually much less expensive than cases, but you can find designer sleeves or leaves with pockets costing more than the average case so be sure to check prices.

Some people like to make their own cases but unless you have a particular design or fabric that you like, it’s best to leave it to the experts and get a sleeve that is already made.

If you are purchasing it as a gift, try to ask questions in a subtle way. You may find that although their sleeve or case is tattered or worn they may like the worn out look and in that instance, look for a different accessory for their netbook as they probably won’t give up their current protection no matter how nice your choice may be.
